Rally is an exciting but also dangerous kind of sport involving high risk. Insurance indemnities in rally are mainly related to sliding out or driving out of the racecourse, overturning and collisions with other racing participants. Recently, If P&C Insurance AS in Latvia has made the largest indemnity payment in rally insurance in the amount of 20 000 euro.

“This year, we have made the greatest payment of insurance indemnity to date: 20 000 euro for the Estonian auto racer’s crash in Tallinn Rally 2014 with Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, when in one of the route curves he lost control over the vehicle while turning left, slid off the racecourse and rammed into trees. This is the largest indemnity in the three years since we offer rally insurance. Usually, we have to face smaller accidents because, irrespective of the high dangerousness of rally, professional auto racers are able to combine a dynamic driving style with the ability to avoid accidents or prevent their consequences as far as possible,” pointed out Manager of the If Motor's own damage (MOD, in latvian - KASKO) insurance product Kaspars Duburs.

If P&C Insurance AS in Latvia paid the second largest rally insurance indemnity in the amount of 17 000 euro in 2013, when a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution driven by a Latvian auto racer crashed in the section “300 Lakes Rally“ in Zarasai region. At the moment, the indemnity claimed by the rally crew of the Auto Racing Academy /Autosporta Akadēmija/ is also reviewed for the crash in the section of Talsi Rally, when the car slid off the racecourse and overturned on the roof while turning left. The losses are still being calculated.

It is not a secret that previously the auto racers most often were insured in foreign countries, while some participate in rally without insurance, relying on success, or at least hoping that vehicle damages will not be serious and they will be able to pay for repairs by themselves. This is related to the fact that the insurance companies operating in the Baltic States did not provide car insurance during races.

Kaspars Duburs tells: “Currently, the range of If P&C Insurance AS in Latvia rally insurance clients includes Estonian, Russian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Norwegian rally crews. Cars are insured against crash damages, including catching fire, during racing. We are proud that that such top level rally stars have been our clients as the participant of the World Rally Championship and winner of Portugal Rally 2012, Norwegian Mad Ostberg and Russian auto racer, winner of several stages of Latvian rally championship Aleksey Lukyanuk.”
